SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The California Grocers Association Educational Foundation here said Jim Van Gorkom has been named chairman of its board of trustees.
Van Gorkom is vice president, sales and merchandising, for NuCal Foods, Ripon, Calif. Before joining NuCal in 2006, he was vice president, retail sales, for Sun-Maid Growers of California, Kingsburg, Calif. He succeeds Pam Poggi, who left the chairmanship when she left Pleasanton, Calif. -based Safeway, where she was vice president, corporate human relations development.
Other new board officers are Joe Falvey, senior vice president, sales, for Unified Grocers, Los Angeles, as vice chairman; John J. Niemann 3rd, vice president, human resources, for the Southern California division of Albertsons, a division of Minneapolis-based Supervalu, as treasurer; and Brad Askeland, director of human resources for North State Grocery, Cottonwood, Calif., as secretary.
