CGA, Legislators Collect One Million Pounds of Food

California grocers joined state legislators and staff Tuesday for a one-day food donation drive that netted more than one million pounds of non-perishable food.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California grocers joined state legislators and staff Tuesday for a one-day food donation drive that netted more than one million pounds of non-perishable food.

The Capitol Food Drive was held in conjunction with the California Grocers Association's annual Grocers Day at the Capitol, during which legislators and their staff members were encouraged to donate non-perishable food items to collections bins; the donations were delvered to California Emergency Foodlink, which supplies food banks around the state.

Participating companies included Albertsons/Supervalu; Gelson's Markets; Safeway/Vons; Save Mart Supermarkets and Stater Bros. Markets, along with Coca-Cola Bottling Co.
