CHICAGO — Ground coffee is well represented at the Private Label Manufacturers Association's annual trade show, which began Sunday and runs through Tuesday.

The exhibit floor features booths from coffee companies including Coffee Bean International, Paramount Coffee Co., Massimo Zanetti, Sturm Foods, Copper Moon, Mother Parker's and Distant Lands.

What's more, private label is tapping into coffee trends commonly found on the national-brand side of the business. Sturm Foods, for instance, is showcasing single-cup coffee.

Likewise, similar to what's happening on the national-brand side of the business, private-label coffee is getting more involved in cause marketing. Copper Moon Coffee, for instance, donates a percentage of sales to help the manatees. Luna Roasters, meanwhile, links its Project Cure brand to shipments of medical supplies to different places in the world each time five bags are purchased.

"Drink coffee locally, deliver relief globally," is its tag line.

Luna also markets Wagon Roast coffee. The company donates $5 from every bag purchased to a children's hospital.
