CARLSTADT, N.J. — It was officially declared on Thursday that the hot design color for 2011 is honeysuckle, a vibrant, energetic hue of reddish pink.
For over a decade, Pantone, a global authority here on color trends and standards in the design industries, has specified the Color of the Year that is expected to influenced product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries including fashion, home and industrial design.
Food retailing general merchandise buyers can expect to see the reddish hue (Pantone 19-2120) reflected in housewares lines during the upcoming International Home & Housewares Show, March 6-8, in Chicago.
“The intensity of this festive reddish pink allures and engages. In fact, this color, not the sweet fragrance of the flower blossoms for which it was named, is what attracts hummingbirds to nectar. Honeysuckle may also bring a wave of nostalgia for its associated delicious scent reminiscent of the carefree days of spring and summer,” explained Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, in a company release.
Eiseman, who studies trends adopted by designers, manufacturers and retailers, as well as indicators of public opinion, will conduct her annual color trend seminar during the housewares show.
A dynamic reddish pink, honeysuckle is encouraging and uplifting. It elevates our psyche beyond escape, instilling the confidence, courage and spirit to meet the exhaustive challenges that have become part of everyday life, she stated.
Last year’s Color of the Year — turquoise, served as an escape for many, particularly those suffering under the economic doldrums.
