Colorado Workers to Begin Contract Voting

Workers at Safeway and Kroger's Co.'s King Soopers chain in Colorado are scheduled to begin voting this Saturday on the final contract offer from the chains, according to a post on the United Food & Commercial Workers Local 7 website.

DENVER — Workers at Safeway and Kroger's Co.'s King Soopers chain in Colorado are scheduled to begin voting this Saturday on the final contract offer from the chains, according to a post on the United Food & Commercial Workers Local 7 website.

Voting runs through Oct. 6. The unions said the latest offer "fails to maintain worker's health care benefits, cuts pensions and does not provide livable wages." The offer includes pay increases for the most experienced workers and increases the minimum retirement age from 50 to 55, among other changes.

A union rally is planned for this Thursday at a Wheat Ridge, Colo., Safeway location. Local reports said a strike was "unlikely."
