Court to Hear Arguments in Hannaford Case: Report

AUGUSTA, Maine — The Supreme Judicial Court of Maine here will consider whether victims of Hannaford Bros.’s credit-card breach are able to sue the retailer for time spent straightening out their bank accounts in the wake of the breach, a report in the Bangor Daily News newspaper said.

Earlier this year, a District Court judge ruled that Hannaford was not liable under state law, but referred two questions raised by the case to the state’s high court. Those questions will likely be addressed early next year, the report said, with the case likely to be dropped if the court agrees with the earlier ruling.
