DETROIT — Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm this week announced the launch of a program that will deliver fresh produce to the city's "food deserts," defined as neighborhoods where supermarkets are scarce and fresh produce and other fresh foods are not readily available to local residents.

Funded by a $75,000 low-interest loan from the state, the program will use a vendor-style truck bearing a “MI Neighborhood Food Movers” logo to deliver reasonably priced fruits and vegetables to these neighborhoods on a fixed route and schedule.
