DAYTON, Ohio — At a time when it is exploring the Foursquare location-based social networking application, Dorothy Lane Market has a different type of “4Square” in place.

4Square is the name for a container shoppers can use at its deli case. The recyclable container has four equal squares to fill.

“Choose what you want, as much or as little as we can get into our cute 4Square container,” corporate chef Carrie Walters wrote in a recent blog. Shoppers who opt for 4Square containers in the deli department are charged $6.99 per pound, $5.99 a pound on special.

The container is especially beneficial for shoppers who can’t decide which type of pasta/prepared salad to choose.

“Today I had Cranberry Tuna Salad, Buffalo Potato Salad, Casco Bay Shrimp and Basil Infused Fruit,” according to Walters. “Yesterday, I ate Chicken and Grape Salad, Pine Club Pasta Salad, Broccoli Raisin and Mandarin Orange.”

Walters went on to describe how she brought the 4Square container to a recent party. She was asked to bring a pasta salad.

“Guess what? I brought Garlic Shell, Zesty Sesame Noodle, Parmesan Penne and Homestyle Macaroni,” she said. “It was quite the hit because everyone loves a little variety.”
