D&W Supports Local Farming

Spartan Stores' D&W Fresh Market and Felpausch Food Centers banners are promoting a new local-farming effort.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Spartan Stores' D&W Fresh Market and Felpausch Food Centers banners are promoting a new local-farming effort. Both have links on their websites to a contest from Farmers Feed Us, a campaign by the Center for Food Integrity, Kansas City, Mo., that supports local farmers in Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri and Ohio.

The Center for Food Integrity was established in 2007 to build consumer confidence in the U.S. food supply. The contest provides free groceries for a year, a $5,000 value, to all those who register on the farmersfeedus.org website. The contest runs through Feb. 12, 2010.

On Jan. 11, the contest will kick off in Indiana, Missouri, and Iowa. Retailers in those states will feature website links and provide other information.

The farmersfeedus.org website features profiles on people like Jennifer Lewis, a dairy farmer from Jonesville, Mich. There are also recipes and farming facts. By entering the contest, visitors also opt-in to receive additional information from local farmers including recipes, notifications of future contests, coupons and tips.

Farmers Feed Us is driven by the participating farmers and farmer organizations, which support outreach through the development of the site and sweepstakes, said Charlie Arnot, chief executive officer, Center for Food Integrity.

"Farmers want consumers to understand what they do each day to deliver safe, nutritious and affordable food to consumers' tables, while caring for their families, their livestock and land, and contributing to their communities," Arnot told SN.
