GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Meijer here has built a private-label line around premium foods with a unique story to tell.
Called Meijer Gold, the brand consists of 80 items made from original recipes by companies that are either local to Meijer’s operating areas or family-owned.
A handcrafted, sparkling lemonade is made from a family recipe in France, mustard is prepared from an old German recipe by a Midwest company and cream pasta sauces are sourced from Chicago restaurateurs, the Mugnolo family.
Meijer Gold Sugar-Free Maple-Praline Syrup, Grilled Pineapple Chipotle Salsa, Porcini Truffle Tortellini and Michigan Apple Cheesecake also have interesting origins, according to the retailer.
“We’ve traveled the globe and looked in small towns to source premium products that have a distinctive history, heritage and story,” said Ralph Fischer, group vice president of foods at Meijer, in a statement.
When it originally launched in 2005, Meijer Gold consisted of premium everyday items.
