WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Michael J. Teel told SN yesterday he decided to return to Raley's as chief executive officer to protect the family business.
“In difficult times a business needs family leadership, and I'm in a place in life where I can devote time to that and to serve the family and employees of Raley's,” the 58-year-old executive said. “My focus will be to ensure we achieve market-share gains.”
Teel, the grandson of the chain's founder, had been president and CEO of the family-owned company between 1997 and 2002 before abruptly leaving the business. Bill Coyne left as the company’s CEO in November.
Raley's operates 134 stores with a volume estimated at $3.4 billion.
