WASHINGTON — The National Retail Federation here said yesterday that it expects three separate pieces of legislation addressing organized retail crime (ORC) to be introduced this week in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate. The bills, to be sponsored by Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Ill.; Rep. Bobby Scott, D-Ind.; and Rep. Brad Ellsworth, D-Ind., are expected to be similar to bills introduced by the same sponsors last year, which addressed e-fencing and strengthening law enforcement, among other measures.
“Federal ORC legislation will help give the federal government the resources and authority to pursue ORC criminals,” said Jonathan Gold, NRF’s vice president of supply chain and customs policy, in a conference call with reporters.
