Food Safety Website Launched

TORONTO — Global Food Safety Resource Centre has launched a business-to-business website designed to help businesses adopt or improve food standards and best practices.

GFSR offers an overview of food safety and pools resources providing information to the food industry. Businesses can search for food safety specialists or service providers tailored to specific requirements, and find resources to help them adopt or implement food standards or certification schemes.

“Achieving the highest level of food safety is not just about following standards,” said John G. Keogh, senior vice president of GS1, Brussels-based standards group. “Companies today must augment their internal skills and knowledge base. The global launch of GFSR fills that gap and is a critical resource.”

“Food safety and security have become critical issues; it’s a challenge for many food businesses to implement a HACCP-based food management system, the costs can be onerous, especially during the current economic crisis," said Tina Brillinger, president and founder of GFSR. “Many food businesses are struggling just to make ends meet; GFSR helps fill the gap by providing equal access to resources they can trust.”

GFSR is working to develop key alliances with industry stakeholders, including: NSF International, Guelph Food Technology Centre, Food Industry Consultants, Traincan, QMI-SAI Global and Enviro-Food Consulting.

GFSR offers a free “open membership” allowing members to source their resources and network from anywhere in the world.

“All food safety specialists and service providers, found in our Global Food Safety Network will be asked to verify their credentials,” said Brillinger. “Our vision is to become a trusted resource to the global food industry.”
