Four Retailers Earn Beef Backer Awards

SAN ANTONIO — Four retailers — Sendik’s Food Markets, Whitefish Bay, Wis.; Southern Family Markets, Birmingham, Ala.; Harris Teeter Supermarkets, Matthews, N.C.; and Supervalu, Minneapolis, Minn. — have received the 2009 Beef Checkoff-funded Retail Beef Backer Awards for their beef marketing and merchandising programs.

SAN ANTONIO — Four retailers — Sendik’s Food Markets, Whitefish Bay, Wis.; Southern Family Markets, Birmingham, Ala.; Harris Teeter Supermarkets, Matthews, N.C.; and Supervalu, Minneapolis, Minn. — have received the 2009 Beef Checkoff-funded Retail Beef Backer Awards for their beef marketing and merchandising programs.

“The Retail Beef Backer Awards highlight the exceptional work retailers do throughout the year to increase beef demand,” said Jim Henger, executive director of marketing for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, which contracts to manage retail programs for the Beef Checkoff program. “This is one way beef producers show their appreciation to retailers for their efforts to support the industry.”

Last year, the winners of the second annual Retail Beef Backer Awards were Associated Food Stores, Adam’s Hometown Markets and Kroger Co.
