NEW YORK -- Online grocer FreshDirect here is encouraging its customers to stock up ahead of the snowstorm that is projected to hit the city this Wednesday, after the delivery service got snowed in by the Dec. 26 storm.

In a posting Monday on its Facebook page, FreshDirect cautioned: "Just so you know... there's a forecast of severe weather and snow in NYC this Wednesday (1/12), so we're encouraging customers to place orders for delivery tomorrow. Stay warm out there!"

Last week rival D'Agostino's, the local supermarket chain that has long offered delivery service in the city, sent out a media advisory that snow would not stop its stores from delivering, ahead of a storm that never produced much accumulation.
