FreshDirect Promotes Low-Cal for New Year

NEW YORK — FreshDirect is once again promoting its 500-calorie meals as part of a New Year’s resolution theme. The online grocer lists 25 low-calorie meals for delivery that have either been created in-house by the company’s chefs and nutritionist under the Smart & Simple brand, or developed with EatingWell Magazine or local chef Gloyd Cardoz of Tabla.

NEW YORK — FreshDirect is once again promoting its 500-calorie meals as part of a New Year’s resolution theme.

The online grocer lists 25 low-calorie meals for delivery that have either been created in-house by the company’s chefs and nutritionist under the Smart & Simple brand, or developed with EatingWell Magazine or local chef Floyd Cardoz of Tabla. The company launched the 500-calorie offerings in 2005, and promotes them annually around the holidays.

In addition to having 500-calories or fewer, the “4-Minute Meals” also each contain a balance of proteins, vegetables and grains, are low in cholesterol and have no hydrogenated oils, the company said on its website.

The meals are being promoted this year under the tag line, “New Year, New You.” New offerings include Tabla spiced salmon with black quinoa and tomato chutney, $8.99 per person; Smart & Simple roasted chicken with barley risotto and vegetables, $7.99 per person; and Smart & Simple Mediterranean tofu with orzo and faro pilaf, $6.99 per person.
