Giant Eagle to Launch Store-Specific Planograms in ‘09

Giant Eagle plans to begin implementing store-specific shelf planograms in January 2009 for product allocation at its 158 corporate stores, according to Ray Smaltz, the chain’s vice president of grocery category management.

PITTSBURGH — Giant Eagle here plans to begin implementing store-specific shelf planograms in January 2009 for product allocation at its 158 corporate stores, according to Ray Smaltz, the chain’s vice president of grocery category management. “Each store should have its own planograms,” he told SN. The planogram project will incorporate mapping of all stores, neighborhood data from Nielsen and Spectra Marketing, and planogram technology provided by Galleria Retail Technology Solutions, Chicago. The planograms will cover both turn sales and promotions, said Smaltz.
