Giant to Turn Over Powerball Commission Check to Food Bank

Giant Food will pass along the $100,000 commission it received for selling a winning Powerball jackpot ticket last month, to the Capital Area Food Bank today.

LANDOVER, Md. — Giant Food will pass along the $100,000 commission it received for selling a winning Powerball jackpot ticket last month, to the Capital Area Food Bank today.

The donation will support the construction of a larger food distribution center that will enable CAFB to distribute twice as much food through its network of 700 member agencies, increase the nutritional value of the food, and expand nutrition education programs. Giant previously donated $330,000 to the project.

“We are grateful to Giant for recognizing the importance of the food bank’s growth; and the urgent need to increase services for those families and individuals struggling to get enough food right here in our Nation’s Capital,” said Lynn Brantley, president and chief executive officer of the CAFB, in a statement.
