GMA’s Black to Chair New Food Safety Alliance

WASHINGTON — Glenn Black, director of science operations for the Grocery Manufacturers Association has been selected to chair the newly formed Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance Steering and Executive Committee.

The alliance was formed by the Food and Drug Administration and the Institute for Food Safety and Health in response to the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2011. Its mission is to develop a core curriculum and education materials to be used in training stakeholders on the preventive controls requirements in the new FSMA regulations.

“Glenn’s extensive experience in food safety science along with his considerable expertise in food safety training and education, make him an excellent choice to lead the Alliance,” said Leon Bruner, chief science officer of the GMA, in a statement. “We’re confident that the education and training materials that are developed by the Alliance will help industry — particularly small- and medium-size companies — comply with the new preventive control rules.”
