CAMDEN, N.J. — Campbell Soup Co. here is partnering with the Grammy Foundation, Santa Monica, Calif., to make its Discovery Through Music curriculum available to schools registered for Campbell’s Labels for Education program.

Labels for Education participants earn points for their designated schools when they send UPC codes from qualifying Campbell’s products. Points can be redeemed for items ranging from scissors to software, and now Discovery Through Music education tools.

The curriculum is designed to help kids in kindergarten through sixth grade understand the basic elements of music including beat, tempo, rhythm and pitch, and apply these as part of lesson plans for language arts, math, science and technology.

Among other enhancements to the Labels for Education program are retailer-initiated efforts.

The Kroger Co., Cincinnati, recently extended a program that allows shoppers to earn Labels for Education points automatically when they enroll their loyalty card. Salisbury, N.C.-based Food Lion is likewise doing something new. It's turned collecting Labels for Education points into a competition. The winning school will earn 1 million points.

Nearly 60,000 schools nationwide are registered for this year’s Labels for Education program.
