MENOMINEE, Wis. — A local logistics specialist here has acquired Great Lakes Foods, a full-service grocery wholesaler serving about 125 independent supermarkets in Upper Michigan and northeastern Wisconsin.
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The buyer is Tom Kuber of KK Integrated Logistics, according to a statement from Great Lakes Foods.
The wholesaler had been owned by brothers Rassem "Russ" Kaloti and Ishaq "Isaac' Kaloti, who in October pleaded guilty to conspiracy and tax fraud charges related to hiding funds in secret bank accounts related to the business, according to a report in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. They had acquired the business in 2000 after the previous owner, the former national wholesaler Fleming Cos., exited the market.
Great Lakes Foods was founded in 1881 and operates from a 220,000-square-foot building in the Menominee Industrial Park, which is owned by KK Integrated Logistics. The warehouse employs about 95 people and will retain current management, the company said.
