Grocer Accused of Embezzling $500K

WESTMINSTER, Calif. — The bookkeeper for a Vietnamese supermarket here and two of his friends have been charged with embezzling nearly $500,000 from Westminster Superstore by funneling phony refund transactions to their personal accounts, according to local reports.

WESTMINSTER, Calif. — The bookkeeper for a Vietnamese supermarket here and two of his friends have been charged with embezzling nearly $500,000 from Westminster Superstore by funneling phony refund transactions to their personal accounts, according to local reports.

Tan Dun Tang, the store's longtime bookkeeper, and two friends were arraigned Wednesday in Orange County, where officials said Tang illegally processed 171 fraudulent refunds amounting to nearly $2,900 each to his personal bank accounts and credit cards, as well as to the accounts of his two friends.

Tang is charged with 33 felony counts, including computer access and fraud charges, and faces up to 24 years in prison if convicted.
