SAN ANTONIOH. E. Butt Grocery celebrates the 40th anniversary of Earth Day statewide Thursday by giving away 250,000 reusable shopping bags in a four-hour period, from 3pm-7pm while supplies last.

Anyone that brings five plastic shopping bags or more to any H-E-B store for recycling will receive a coupon for one free reusable green shopping bag. The shopping bags brought in for recycling can be from any retailer and do not need to be H-E-B bags. No purchase is necessary, but there is a limit of one free reusable bag per customer.

“We want to reinforce our enthusiasm for going green and encourage our shoppers to do the same,” said Susan Ghertner, director of environmental affairs, in a statement. “By giving away 250,000 reusable bags we are making it possible for people to make a positive difference when it comes to the environment.”
