Hannaford Bros. Cuts Emissions

SCARBOROUGH, Maine — Hannaford Bros. here saved more than 137,000 gallons of diesel fuel in its trucking fleet last year using an energy-efficiency program, the company said.

SCARBOROUGH, Maine — Hannaford Bros. here saved more than 137,000 gallons of diesel fuel in its trucking fleet last year using an energy-efficiency program, the company said.

In addition, the company anticipates reducing diesel fuel use by nearly 460,000 gallons by 2014. The company said it has achieved these results using the technology and methodologies of the Clean Air Program of Fleet Advantage, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Additional benefits of the partnership:

• Reduction of 1,388 metric tons of carbon dioxide from 2009 to 2010, with a projected cumulative total reduction of 4,625 metric tons by 2014.

• Reduction of 1.61 metric tons of particulate matter from 2009 to 2010, with a projected cumulative total reduction of 2.54 metric tons by 2014.

• Reduction of 50 metric tons of nitrogen oxides from 2009 to 2010, with a projected cumulative reduction of 127 metric tons by 2014.
