SCARBOROUGH, Maine — Hannaford is asking shoppers to help local dairy farmers during the month of February.

The retailer is requesting $1 or $5 donations, which can be made at the register or online at Hannaford.com. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to local dairy farmers, according to Hannaford. Cabot, Dannon and Bear Naked are among the sponsors.

The promotion is part of “Close to Home,” a Hannaford initiative designed to show its commitment to local businesses. In other news, Hannaford is celebrating American Heart Month with special in-store events, including free nutrition classes, store tours, recipes and coupons.

It also will offer free health screenings (BMI, blood pressure, and cholesterol). “Our registered dietitians will be available to answer all your nutrition questions,” according to Hannaford.
