Hy-Vee Joins EPA’s GreenChill Refrigeration Program

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Hy-Vee here announced that the company is joining the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s GreenChill Advanced Refrigeration Partnership to reduce refrigerant emissions and help protect the ozone layer and fight climate change.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Hy-Vee here announced that the company is joining the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s GreenChill Advanced Refrigeration Partnership to reduce refrigerant emissions and help protect the ozone layer and fight climate change.

By joining GreenChill, Hy-Vee commits to:

— Require that all of its new and remodeled stores use environmentally friendlier refrigerants.

— Reduce the amount of refrigerant it uses and eliminate refrigerant leaks.

— Adopt green refrigeration technologies, strategies and practices.

Hy-Vee plans to open a store in 2011 in Fairfield, Iowa, with low- and medium- temperature secondary loop refrigeration systems, according to Jon Scanlan, director of refrigeration and energy management, Hy-Vee.

“Hy-Vee’s participation in GreenChill underscores the company’s commitment to sustainability in all aspects of our operations,” said Michael Smith, Hy-Vee’s director of real estate and sustainability.
