CHICAGO — The IGA banner has returned to IGA's hometown market here after an absence of approximately 20 years with the addition of the red oval on three stores operated by Joe Caputo and Sons Fruit Market in the city's northwest suburbs.

According to Doug Fritsch, senior vice president, retail and business development, for IGA USA, "This is a huge step forward for IGA — not just because the IGA name retuns to the Chicagoland market but also because Nat and Vito Caputo and their team provide exactly the kind of grocery experience that will build the IGA brand as the choice for today's progressive independent grocery retailers."

The Caputo stores — located in Palatine, Des Plaines and Algonquin, Ill. — are full-line supermarkets that also feature imported Italian specialties.

"No matter where you go in the world, people recognize the IGA logo and equate it with hometown community pride, [which is] what we've always been about, so it's a natural fit to join with IGA," co-owner Nat Caputo said.

IGA is an international, voluntary network of independent grocers.
