IGA USA hopes to help shoppers make healthier food choices with its Hometown Healthy Challenge.

CHICAGO — IGA USA hopes to help shoppers make healthier food choices with its Hometown Healthy Challenge.

The MyPyramid-based marketing event that will run from Feb. 15 through March 14 is being made available to IGA retailers. Educational signage, bag stuffers and Web resources available on www.iga.com will be used to educate shoppers about MyPyramid guidelines. A national sweepstakes will also take place.

Three IGA shoppers will each win a $1000 cash prize, and can designate which community organization will receive $5,000 toward fitness programming on behalf of their local IGA. The program is sponsored by manufacturing partners, including Campbell Soup, Coca-Cola, IGA Private Brands, Kraft Foods, McCormick & Co., Nestle and Unilever.

IGA is a charter partner of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s MyPyramid Corporate Challenge.
