PORTLAND, Maine — A federal judge is expected to announce a ruling shortly on whether the Hannaford Bros. chain is potentially liable for a data breach that exposed its customers’ credit cards to hackers, reports said Thursday.
Hannaford, based in Scarborough, Maine, has asked the judge to dismiss a lawsuit seeking class-action status against it related to the breach, which took place in 2007 and resulted in about 1,800 fraudulent charges to customers’ credit cards.
According to the Portland Press Herald newspaper, a U.S. District Court judge here will determine whether all or parts of the case will go forward.
