CHICAGO — Jeffrey D. Klein, 52, has been named president and chief executive officer of the Global FoodBanking Network, which works with government and the private sector to create food banks.
"GFN is a powerful solution to a global epidemic," said Klein, who joins GFN after a long career in finance and banking, most recently as managing director of Equity Group Investments (EGI). "I always knew I would shift my career to non-profit work at some point, but I needed to invest in the right cause and the right organization to ensure I could truly make a difference. I have always had a strong interest in international matters and basic human need, and GFN is an ideal combination of those passions.
"Food is the baseline for all human development. When people are hungry, child development, education, health, economic self-sufficiency and productivity are all thwarted. Addressing hunger has wide implications, and I firmly believe it is a problem that must, and can, be solved."
