Kroger Co. and United Food and Commercial Workers Local 876 have reached a tentative labor agreement covering about 12,000 Michigan workers, both sides said late Thursday after a previous agreement had expired earlier in the week.

MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. — Kroger Co. and United Food and Commercial Workers Local 876 have reached a tentative labor agreement covering about 12,000 Michigan workers, both sides said late Thursday after a previous agreement had expired earlier in the week. A ratification vote is expected next week.

“Kroger and UFCW worked together to reach an agreement that provides our associates one of the best total compensation packages in our industry in Michigan,” said Rick Going, president of Kroger’s Michigan division, in a prepared statement.

“The agreement provides our associates with good wages, high-quality affordable health care, and pension benefits.” Details of the new pact have not been released to the public.

"We feel the tentative agreement reached today addresses our members' needs while allowing the company to remain viable," said Roger Robinson, UFCW Local 876 president. "We appreciate the support and patience the Kroger membership has shown during this difficult process."
