Kroger Opening Robotic C-Store

CINCINNATI — Kroger here this month will open a branded robotic convenience store on the campus of Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio.

The 10-by-13-foot kiosk dispenses up to 200 items including refrigerated foods, snacks and other convenience items such as soaps and detergents, and accepts cash, credit cards and debit cards, according to Matt Reckner, vice president of operations for Shop24 Global, the Columbus, Ohio-based manufacturer of the machine.

The unit is the second such machine Kroger operates. It installed a similar system at a fuel center in Columbus in 2007. Reckner said the new unit in Ada is an updated version of the older model and is set to open shortly.
