ARLINGTON, Va. — Peter Larkin, who will take over as president and chief executive officer of the National Grocers Association on July 1, plans to meet and communicate directly with members over the next few months, Chris Coborn, chairman of NGA's board of directors, said in a message to association members Monday.

Coborn also praised Thomas K. Zaucha, who will retire June 30, for contributions "that go far beyond what I could possibly cover in this letter. Under his leadership, NGA earned a well-deserved reputation as a powerful advocate for the independent retailer and the wholesalers that serve them [and] dedicated the last 28 years to building a financially sound association with a clearly defined mission that is well positioned for future growth and success."

He said Larkin is already working with Zaucha and NGA's staff "to ensure an orderly transition."
