'Like' Links ShopRite.com, Facebook

KEASBEY, N.J. — Visitors to shoprite.com can broadcast to their Facebook friends the groceries they’re fond of thanks to a new “like” button feature added to the site last week by MyWebGrocer.

The “like” button can be used with items included in the "ShopRite from Home" online shopping service, and will roll out to recipes, online circulars and the items they contain, later this month.

A shopper who is signed in to their Facebook account simply clicks the “like” button that corresponds to a product on shoprite.com, and it will appear on their Facebook wall along with a link and a comment, should they provide one. Shoppers can likewise “like” an entire online circular or recipe.

The consumer’s Facebook friends can then click on link and be taken to a landing page on shoprite.com that features the item.

It’s digital word of mouth from people who you trust, and with whom you have common interests and values,” Rebecca Roose, product marketing manager for MyWebGrocer, Colchester, Vt., told SN.

Though the "like" feature is popular with retailers of apparel and bigger ticket items, ShopRite is the first food retailer to incorporate its use with grocery items, according to Roose.
