Loblaw Workers Postpone Strike

Workers who rejected a contract proposal from Loblaw voted to postpone a strike scheduled to begin on Friday.

MISSISSAGUA, Ontario — Workers who rejected a contract proposal from Loblaw voted to postpone a strike scheduled to begin on Friday.

Approximately 1,700 workers at nine Zehr Great Food and Real Canadian Superstore locations in Southern Ontario, represented by United Food and Commercial Workers Locals 175 and 633 here, earlier in the week voted to reject a new contract from Loblaw and set a strike date Friday. However, the union agreed to extend its strike deadline until such time an Ontario Labour Relations Board vote has been conducted. Loblaw applied for an OLRB supervised vote, the union said.
