ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Federal authorities have arrested a former Wegmans Food Markets employee and charged him with emailing death threats to the company's top executives.
According to a report in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, a former employee at a Wegmans store in Princeton, N.J., Hans Ni, was charged with transmitting interstate threats. The U.S. Attorney's Office for Western New York claims Ni emailed death threats to Danny Wegman, chief executive officer, and Colleen Wegman, president, from a public library computer in July.
Ni accused the two of being "race traitors," the Democrat and Chronicle said, after he lost his job at the store, claiming the store hired too many African-American workers. He impersonated his former manager in sending the emails, the newspaper reported.
A spokeswoman for Wegmans, based here, said the company does not speak to the trade press. The company also declined comment to the local newspaper.
The U.S. Attorney's Office could not be reached for comment.
