Marsh Plans Downtown Location

INDIANAPOLIS — Marsh Supermarkets on Tuesday said it is planning to open a new store in this city's downtown area catering to the urban population.

The 40,000-square-foot store, at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Center Street, will be the 70-store retailer's second downtown site.

The "state of the art" store will include an extensive offering of prepared foods and a mezzanine-level dining area, in addition to a full complement of service departments and locally sourced product.

"Our customers tell us they want convenience, outstanding service and a wide variety of high-quality choices when choosing a supermarket," said Joe Kelley, chairman, president and chief executive officer. "We are listening and designing our new downtown store to offer Marsh customers the very best urban grocery shopping experience possible."

The new store is slated to open in the summer of 2013. The other downtown Indianapolis Marsh store opened in 1986.
