NACDS Recognizes Berwick as CMS Nominee

The National Association of Chain Drug Stores pledged to work with President Barack Obama’s nominee, Donald M. Berwick, as administrator of The Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services (CMS), if confirmed by the Senate.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The National Association of Chain Drug Stores pledged to work with President Barack Obama’s nominee, Donald M. Berwick, as administrator of The Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services (CMS), if confirmed by the Senate.

Berwick, who was nominated yesterday, serves as president and chief executive officer of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, and is a professor at Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health.

NACDS, which represents large chain community pharmacies, said its membership is poised to play a role in cutting health care costs especially when it comes to implementing medication adherence to improve patient health and reduce preventable costs.

“The National Association of Chain Drug Stores looks forward to working with Dr. Donald Berwick upon his confirmation on our shared commitment to healthcare quality, improved patient health, and cost-effectiveness,” said Steven C. Anderson, NACDS president and CEO, in a prepared statement.
