CENTENNIAL, Colo. — The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association here has issued a call for nominations for their 2009 Retail Beef Backer Awards.

Funded by the Beef Checkoff Program, the annual award honors supermarket retailers that have developed and executed outstanding promotions and merchandising, long-term programs and special initiatives, marketing efforts and other activities for beef in their meat departments.

Three winners are selected each year based on chain size, and will include one independent retailer with fewer than 11 retail stores, one midsized retailer with 11 to 99 stores, and one large chain with 100 or more stores. A fourth award is given to the “Innovator of the Year,” which can be a chain or an independent.

The deadline for entries is Oct. 30, 2009. More information, including nomination forms, can be found at beefretail.org.
