ARLINGTON, Va. — The National Grocers Association here laid out a series of recommendations Monday to help strengthen its value to existing members and enhance its value to prospective members.

Among the study's recommendations: Create a new advisory group involving grocers, wholesalers and manufacturers to address new opportunities to create sales and profits; harness new social media to improve communications; expand legislative activity and make it more robust; enhance networking and educational opportunities at the annual convention; audit existing programs and services to eliminate obsolete ones; and consider formation of a cross-function advisory group to determine the best path forward for share groups.

"Our members have spoken," Peter Larkin, NGA president and chief executive officer said, "and we listened. Now it's time for action."
