Nielsen Predicts Strong Matzo, Wine Sales

High retail sales are expected for matzo and kosher wine this Passover season, according to the Nielsen Co.

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — High retail sales are expected for matzo and kosher wine this Passover season, according to the Nielsen Co. Consumers are expected to spend more than $3.5 million on matzo during the holiday week. During the week leading up to Passover, matzo sales are expected to exceed $822,000. More than 1.3 million bottles, or $6.5 million in sales, of kosher table wine will be sold during the four weeks leading up to the holiday, representing approximately 15% of the year’s total sales. More than two-thirds will be sold during the two-week period just before and during the Passover holiday. Other holiday items are also expected to do well, including horseradish, with more than $1.7 million in sales expected during Passover week.
