MILWAUKEE — Roundy's Supermarkets here is partnering with pallet provider CHEP to assist Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin manage the shipment of food donations.

Retailers and manufacturers can ship their product donations to Feeding America on CHEP pallets at no charge. In addition, CHEP is covering the collection of empty pallets from Feeding America.

Roundy's is a longtime supporter of Feeding America, supplying grocery products, funds and volunteer time for its food pantries and shelters. In 2010, executives at Roundy's invited CHEP to join the grocer in contributing product handling support to Feeding America; CHEP offered the free use of its pallets for shipments by both Roundy's and other suppliers to the Feeding America facilities in Milwaukee and Omro, Wisc.

"We are grateful that CHEP is joining us in providing needed assistance to such a great organization as Feeding America," said Mark Nolan, Roundy's senior vice president of supply chain, in a statement. "By supplying its pallets free of charge to Roundy's and several of our trading partners, CHEP is eliminating the need to transfer loads to pallets that may damage products during the delivery process."
