Price Chopper, Dole Use QR Codes

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Price Chopper Supermarkets, in partnership with Dole Food Co., is the latest retailer to experiment with QR codes.

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Price Chopper Supermarkets, in partnership with Dole Food Co., is the latest retailer to experiment with QR codes.

Shoppers are encouraged to join the Dole Salad Mobile Club by scanning a QR code featured in an advertisement on Price Chopper’s Facebook page. If they don’t have a mobile phone capable of reading QR codes, they can text “club” to 47170.

Those who join the club will receive four free holiday recipes and are entered to win a $500 Price Chopper gift card. QR (quick-response) codes are two-dimensional (2D) barcodes that wirelessly connect cell phone users to websites, photos, videos and other content.

A growing number of retailers and manufacturers are starting to use them.
