COMPTON, Calif. — Ralphs Grocery Co. was placed on three years' probation and ordered to pay fines totaling $67,616 after pleading no contest Tuesday to 62 misdemeanor charges in Van Nuys Superior Court.

Ralphs is a division of Kroger Co., Cincinnati. The charges stemmed from inspections by the Los Angeles Department of Weights and Measures, which found violations involving mislabeling, false advertising and selling items that weighed less than labeled.

Kendra Doyel, group vice president, marketing, told SN the judge noted the amount of overcharges came to approximately $31 and cited evidence indicating Ralphs is 99.5% accurate on weights and measures investigations.
