Reasor's Installs PepsiCo's Dream Machines

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Reasor’s is encouraging consumers to recycle bottles and cans collected from Independence Day celebrations in PepsiCo Dream Machines stationed outside its stores.

Earlier this week it became the first grocery chain to install the computerized receptacles that include a personal reward system that allows consumers to collect and redeem points for each bottle or can they recycle. There is also a cause marketing element to the program.

As part of the Dream Machine Summer Recycling Challenge, PepsiCo will provide support to the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities, a program offering free, training in entrepreneurship and small business management to post-9/11 veterans with disabilities. The more consumers recycle, the more support it will provide.

PepsiCo's Dream Machine recycling initiative, created in partnership with Waste Management, was developed to support the manufacturer's goal of increasing the U.S. beverage container recycling rate from 34% to 50% by 2018.

“Reasor’s has long been committed to recycling, and the partnership with PepsiCo to host the Dream Machines in our stores will make it even easier for our customers to recycle,” said Ken Perry, Reasor’s director of marketing in a statement. “Helping the environment while also helping disabled U.S. veterans is a winning combination.”

The kiosks will be installed in all of Reasor’s 15 stores before the holiday weekend. Its two Lil’ Reasor’s convenience stores will also receive the Dream Machines.

Rite Aid has also signed on to the program, starting with 150 kiosks in its North Carolina locations.
