Retailers Embrace FDA’s Recall Widget Info

Publix Super Markets and Bashas’, Chandler, Ariz., are among the retailers using a widget to give consumers the latest news about the peanut recall and investigation.

LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix Super Markets here and Bashas’, Chandler, Ariz., are among the retailers using a widget to give consumers the latest news about the peanut recall and investigation.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration provides the widget so that retailers can provide the latest peanut recalls and news directly on their websites, without having to direct consumers to the FDA home page.

A widget is an application that displays content directly on a Web page. Once retailers add the widget to their websites, there is no technical maintenance; the FDA automatically updates content.

The widget comes at a time when the peanut recall continues to widen. As of Feb. 13, more than 2,000 items were on the list, up from 400 in January.
