HOUSTON — Rice Epicurean Markets here said Friday it is enhancing its online grocery and delivery services by lowering service fees, adding thousands of new products, using a new fleet of refrigerated delivery trucks, adding customer support staff and offering the Parade Brand line of private-label products.
The company said the changes reflect the evolution of online shopping. A chain spokesman said the lower prices are designed to simplify the company's offer and also to attract more business in the weakened economy.
For a $50 minimum order, delivery fees through the end of 2009 are being reduced to as low as $9.95. The charge for customer pickup of online orders at any of its five store locations will be $4.95. Prior to the change, Rice charged $15 for orders under $250 and $9.95 for orders over $250, and the pickup charge was $7.
