Roundy's Implements Inventory Management System

Roundy's Supermarkets here is implementing the SoftGrocer Inventory Management system from SofTechnics, Akron, Ohio, throughout its 154-store chain.

MILWAUKEE — Roundy's Supermarkets here is implementing the SoftGrocer Inventory Management system from SofTechnics, Akron, Ohio, throughout its 154-store chain.

Roundy's will use a centralized deployment of the system; all software, data and business rules reside at the corporate headquarters while the information is made available to store associates via in-store workstations and mobile devices. The system consists of receiving, ordering and location-based inventory, and is designed to streamline the physical count and backroom picking processes, and update and verify perpetual inventory balances.

Implementing this system has "helped us reduce our item out-of-stocks," said John Boyle, chief information officer for Roundy's. "At the same time, we were able to reduce backroom and overall store inventory levels without impacting product availability, which creates an immediate cost savings for our stores."
