Safeway Expands Use of Newspaper Sales Program

Safeway here today has expanded use of a billing and data consolidation program for sales of newspapers in stores to its Denver and Northern California divisions.

PLEASANTON, Calif.Safeway here Monday has expanded use of a billing and data consolidation program for sales of newspapers in stores to its Denver and Northern California divisions.

The service, from iControl, Rockville, Md., is now used by eight out of 10 Safeway divisions, with the Northeast and Texas divisions scheduled to enter the program during the second quarter of 2010, said iControl.

The service enables retailers to move from a manual paper-invoice billing process for newspaper vendors, to a fully automated, scan-based system. IControl manages the process and is the sole party the retailer pays, according to Tal J. Zlotnitsky, chief executive officer, iControl.
