Safeway Named 'All-Time Partner' by Easter Seals

Safeway here has been named the “All-Time Top Corporate Partner” by Easter Seals here after raising a record $10.2 million in 2009 and exceeding $100 million for contributions since 1986, the Easter Seals organization said.

CHICAGO — Safeway has been named the “All-Time Top Corporate Partner” by Easter Seals here after raising a record $10.2 million in 2009 and exceeding $100 million for contributions since 1986, the Easter Seals organization said.

The money goes to support services for children and adults with autism and other disabilities.

During one month this year Pleasanton, Calif.-based Safeway raised $8.8 million through customer donations at checkstands and another $1.4 million from employees through market events, golf tournaments and other fund-raisers.

According to James E. Williams Jr., president and chief executive officer of Easter Seals, “Safeway's commitment runs far beyond the annual fund-raising campaign — it’s business.”
